Pine City Man Killed in Head-On Collision
On Thursday, November 26, 2009, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Washburn County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call of a head on collision on Hwy 70, just west of the City of Spooner, Wisconsin.
According to the preliminary investigation by Washburn County Deputies, Barry F. Banks, age 66, of Spooner, Wisconsin, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 70 towards Spooner. Banks was driving a 1995 Ford Econovan when he crossed the centerline and struck a 1975 Chevrolet Pickup Truck traveling westbound on Hwy 70 driven by Russell J. Naber, 50, of Pine City, Minnesota.
Banks and Naber were pronounced dead at the Spooner Hospital.
Washburn County Deputies, Spooner Police, Spooner Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and North Ambulance responded to the scene.
This accident remains under investigation by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, Spooner Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The Scalzo-Taylor Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements for both Naber and Banks.
Private services for Naber are scheduled at a later date. A memorial service for Banks will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM (visitation 10-11 AM) at Scalzo-Taylor Family Funeral Home in Spooner.
