Man Charged with Break-In at Sandstone Food Center
A 40 year-old Hinckley man faces over five years in prison for allegedly trying to rob Chris’ Food Center in Sandstone on Saturday, November 21st. Dennis Harth was charged Tuesday in Pine County court. He faces one count of first degree criminal damage to property, which is punishable by five years and a $10,000 fine. He also faces a charge of fleeing police.
According to the criminal complaint, witnesses say they saw Harth using a crow bar to try to break into the cash machine at the car wash at the food center. When police arrived, Harth began to run. Police chased him into a small field, and attempted to tase him, however the taser was ineffective, and Harth continued to run.
Police eventually tackled him and placed Harth under arrest. At the scene, authorities found a four foot crow bar and a short handled sledge hammer. The store owner estimates the damage to the cash machine is $20,000, according to the complaint.
Bail is set at $4,000. Harth is due back in court on December 2nd.
