Crawford Running for District 8B State Representative
Roger Crawford, Mora, has announced his candidacy for the Republican Party endorsement for Minnesota Legislative District 8B. Crawford represents Mora on the Kanabec County Board of Commissioners and previously was a council member and mayor of Mora. District 8B includes all of Kanabec County, southern Pine County and the northern tier of townships in Isanti County and Braham.
“I believe the State of Minnesota is seriously in need of change at the legislature,” said Crawford. “The main issues I will raise,” he said, “are the out of control budget and the related issue of economic development – or what used to be called the business climate. The majority party has a job-killing agenda.”
“Small private business needs to be encouraged in Minnesota,” he added, “and we need to stop the movement of business and entrepreneurs out of the state.”
Crawford said his background in local government has equipped him to understand the issues at the state level. “The state government has shown little or no understanding of the problems faced by cities and counties. This needs to change.”
Personally, Crawford has been married 37 years to his wife Barbara and has four adult children. He is a member of the Mora American Legion Post 201, the Knights of Columbus, and is a member of St. Mary’s Church in Mora. He has owned and operated a real estate appraisal business in Mora for the past twenty years and previously was a teacher in the Milaca school district and St. Mary’s School in Pine City, MN. He served four years in the U. S. Navy. Crawford has served on the board of MAYRA (Mora Area Youth Recreational Association), Mora HRA (Housing and Redevelopment Authority), East Central Regional Library and served as a commissioner on the Mora Public Utilities Commission.
