Library Unveils Expansion Plans
The vision is now a reality and local residents were able to take their first look, Thursday, at the new Pine City library expansion plans at an open house. The new facility will be 7,800 square feet, which is nearly four times the size of the current facility.
Librarian Christy Koch details the expansion:
Engineer Gayle Mack of Short Elliot Hendrickson (SEH) explained the layout and some of the new features in the library, including a fire place. She says its important to have community support for local libraries
The open house was also held in conjunction with the East Central Regional Libraries 50th anniversary. Pine County was one of the original three branches, in what has since expanded to libraries in 14 counties. Koch says the new expansion is an exciting way to celebrate a new era in the ECRL’s history.
The library still needs to raise about $150,000 for the project. Koch said residents contributed $4,046 through the campaign from GiveMN.org earlier this week. The website will make a partial match.
Koch says work on the project will begin once city hall moves across the street to the old courthouse.
