The lease agreement between Pine County and Pine City for the old Pine County courthouse will sit on the shelf for a few more weeks.  The Pine County Board did not sign the agreement at Tuesday’s meeting because the full board was not in attendance.  Commissioner Steve Chaffee was absent.  Also, board members Curt Rossow and Doug Carlson raised concerns about the lease.

Rossow raised concerns about security and maintenance.

The city is leasing the middle floor of the building.  Rossow asked about how the top and bottom floors will be secured, because they will be used as storage for county files.  Coordinator Mark LeBrun says the county plans on putting gates up for security.  LeBrun also said the county is planning on providing a custodian to work at both the new and old courthouse, which was another issue brought up by Rossow.

Commissioner Steve Hallan defended the agreement.

The board plans to revisit the lease at their December 1st meeting.  The lease is for ten years and the city will pay the county $35,000 a year.
