Hickey: Spying Accusations “Totally Ridiculous”

Pine City Resident Cindy Hickey calls the accusations of espionage against her son Shane Bauer “totally ridiculous.” Bauer is being detained in Iran along with two other Americans. News surfaced of the charges Monday, but Hickey says she still remains positive that her son will return home.

Bauer and his friends Sarah Shourd and Josh Fattal have been in an Iranian prison since July 31st. Their families say they accidentally crossed the Iranian border while hike in Iraq. Vigils were held Sunday across the world to show support for the Americans and their families.
Hickey says continued support is needed to bring her son home.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday that there is “no evidence” to support the charges against Bauer, Shourd, and Fattal. Hickey and the families of Shourd and Fattal had a private meting with Clinton last week, but Hickey says she has not spoken to her since the espionage accusations.
Hickey adds that the families will not stop working until their loved ones are back in America.
