Settlement Reached in Lawsuit Against County and Sheriff

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 at 8:56 am

On Tuesday, November 3, the Pine County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the settlement of the lawsuit commenced by Robin Cole against Pine County and Sheriff Mark Mansavage.

The tentative settlement was reached during a mediation which took place on October 20, 2009.  Retired District Court Judge Robert Schiefelbein served as the mediator. Pursuant to the settlement agreement, Pine County and the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust will pay Robin Cole $35,000 for a full and final resolution of any claims Mr. Cole may have as a result of his employment with the County. Pine County is contributing $15,000 toward the settlement.

In settling the case, Pine County and Sheriff Mansavage make no admission of liability for the claims asserted by Robin Cole. “The Pine County Board made a business decision in agreeing to this settlement. Litigation can be very expensive and distracting, especially litigation involving disgruntled former employees,” reported Dyan Ebert, the attorney retained to represent Pine County and Sheriff Mansavage in the case.
