Credit Union Honored for Work with Youths
The Indianhead Credit Union in Grantsburg recently received an honored for their work in youth financial education. The credit union is receiving the state Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award.
Phillip Heckman is the director of youth programs for the Credit Union National Association. He talks about why Indianhead was chosen for the honor.

Indianhead is now up for the national award which Heckman says will be determined by sometime next week. Heckman describes the process of selecting the Grantsburg credit union.

Part of the work that Indianhead Credit Union does with young peeople is the L.I.F.E. Stages program. The program includes three club accounts for youth ages 0 – 17 and one club account for young adults ages 18 – 24.
The first step is to teach basic money management skills is opening a savings account. Step two is the Leap Club which helps kids aged 6 to 12 learn good money management skills with lots of special incentives along the way. The final step is for teens 13-17, called the REACH Club offering savings, atm cards, checking accounts, debit cards, low minimum cd’s and even small loans.
