Deer Cause Two Serious Accidents in Isanti Co.

A Bethel man suffered serious injuries Sunday night, the result of a motorcycle-deer collision in Isanti County.

The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office identifies the driver of the motorcycle as Grady Russell, 36.  According to the accident report, Russell was driving the bike on 253rd Avenue and Lily Street Northwest in Isanti County around 7 p.m.  He struck a deer and was thrown from the bike.

Russell suffered a broken collar bone and broke his right leg below the knee.  He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

A deer caused a rollover accident Sunday morning just after midnight.  Sarah Verkest, 19, swerved to avoid hitting a deer which darted into the road at County Road 14 and 379th Avenue in Isanti County.  Her vehicle rolled over into a ditch as she tried not to hit the deer, according to the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office.  Verkest was taken home after the accident.
