Pine City Woman Tried to Help in I-35 Accident; Second Samaritan Killed

A Pine City woman was involved in an accident in which a good samaritan was  killed Saturday.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the Maria Wilson, 34, of Pine City and Michelle Bartell, 45, of Cedar both drove off the side of the road at the Forest Lake split northbound on I-35 W.  Wilson and Bartell then went to help William Franks, 58, of Chaska when his vehicle went off the road at the same location and rolled over.

While assisting Franks, Bartell was struck by a 1997 Lincoln Town Car driven by Tirrell Corgard, 70, of Roseville, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Bartell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Franks suffered only minor injuries.  None of the other drivers were injured.

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. and road conditions were listed as icy.
