Police have identified the man arrested for robbing a North Branch bank Monday morning.  Rick Steven Wallat, 58, of Cambridge remains in the Chisago County jail.

The North Branch Police Department and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a robbery at 11:24 a.m. Monday which occurred at the People’s National Bank in North Branch.

Per bank employees, Wallat entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money; no weapon was displayed. An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over and Wallat left the area in a vehicle.

Employees at the bank were able to provide a description of Wallat and his vehicle.

After the information was aired to the surrounding law enforcement agencies, Wallat was apprehended in Isanti County by a deputy with the Isanti County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident is being investigated by the North Branch Police Department, the Chisago County Sheriff’s Department, and the FBI.

North Branch Community Relations Coordinator Patrick Tepoorten tells Red Rock Radio that schools went into “Lockdown” for about a half hour after hearing the news.  Tepoorten says this is standard procedure and means the school shuts and locks all the doors, but students are free to walk around the school.
