Picture 1624The race for Minnesota Governor is starting to take shape.  Marty Seiffert was the top vote getter at the Minnesota Republicans straw poll held Saturday.  Tom Emmer and Pat Anderson came in second and third, both made stops in Hinckley this summer.

Several candidates running for the Democrat seat stopped in Pine City Sunday.  Matt Entenza and Paul Thissen both spoke at the annual Donkey Chilli Feed .

Tom Kurhajetz is the Chair of the Pine County DFL.  He says it’s important for local residents to get a chance to meet with the candidates and hear first hand what their plans are for the state.

Those at the Chilli Feed held their form of a straw poll with a bean poll, where beans were place in jars of the candidate they are supporting. At last count, four candidates, Mark Dayton, Matt Entenza, John Marty, and Susan Gaertner tied for the top vote.

A statewide gubernatorial debate is scheduled for next week.

Thank you for your article about the Donkey Chili Feed, but I need to point out an error.
As for the Bean Poll that was conducted, it was a 2-way tie for first place, between State Sen. Tom Bakk, who also attended and spoke, and Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher. Second place also showed a tie between Sen. Mark Dayton and State Sen. John Marty. Third place went to Matt Entenza.
    Thanks again, Barbra Peterson
    Chair, Senate District 8

“Matt Entenza and Paul Thissen both spoke that annual Donkey Chilli Feed”. Should it say, “Matt Entenza and Paul Thissen both stopped by to introduce themselves and their respective platforms.”?
