The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is building 18 new homes in the Hinckley Area.  Mille Lacs Band officials led a ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday and the homes are expected to be completed in 2010.  Tad Johnson works with Government Affairs for the Band.  He says the homes will help keep families closer.

The 18 homes are slated to be three and four-bedroom homes for Band families and Elders.  Johnson says the funding comes from the Band’s economic development enterprises.

The Band has built more than 200 homes and renovated  more since opening Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley in 1991 and 1992.  Johnson says now the Band feels fortunate to start this type of project.
