Former Burnett Co. Judge Faces Ethic Charges
Former Burnett County Circuit Court Judge Michael Gableman faces ethics charges for allegedly knowingly running misleading campaign ads against his opponent Louis Butler in the race for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. Gableman’s lawyer, Jim Bopp, asked a three judge panel on Wednesday to dismiss the complaint.
The controversy stems from an ad which Gableman claims Butler worked to get a rape offender back on the streets, while working as a public defender.
Gableman is sticking by the claims in his ads. But James Alexander, who is the Attorney for Wisconsin Judicial Commission, says Gableman’s ad makes false statements.
Gableman was elected to the supreme court in 2008. He served as circuit court judge in Burnett County starting in 2003.
