Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month
During the month of September, the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) will mark the 20th anniversary of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Together we learn, together we heal,” DHS is working with local partners to hold events that raise awareness of addiction issues and treatment, celebrate those in recovery and those who support them, as well as to show the public that recovery is possible.
“We do not hear about them enough, but millions of people are successful in recovery, quietly working, paying taxes and being responsible,” said Carol Falkowski, director of the DHS Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division and a member of the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Recovery Month Committee. “This month provides an opportunity for millions to celebrate that success and for others to learn about the path to recovery that allows people to rejoin their families, workplaces and communities as contributing citizens.”
