Pine City Area Native Elected State Commander of MN American Legion
Vietnam Veteran and Pine City area native Al Davis is the new state commander of the Minnesota American Legion. Davis was elected to his new position this past weekend at the state convention in Mahnomen.
Davis talks about how he felt once elected:
The 61-year-old grew up on a farm east of Pine City. He is a 1966 graduate of Pine City High School. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 and has been a member of the American Legion for 40 years. Davis is also a longtime member of the Beroun American Legion Post 347. His father served in the Navy during World War II.
Davis talks about his childhood in Pine City:
He currently lives in Princeton. He works as a computer specialist and is employed by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
Davis will serve as commander for a year. He says his primary role as commander is to encourage the legislature to pass legislation beneficial to veterans in Minnesota, as well as public relations duties. The Minnesota American Legion has roughly 102,000 members in 560 posts across the state.
