June Unemployment Figures in Burnett-Polk Counties

Unemployment in Burnett county did not change from May to June, according to numbers released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.  The rate in the Northwest Wisconsin county is 10.5-percent, the same as May. That ranks 16th in the state, which is down five spots from May when Burnett County had the 11th highest rate in the state.  In June of 2008, unemployment was 6.3-percent.

Polk county’s employment rose slightly. Junes rate is 10.0-percent, up from 9.9-percent a month earlier.  Polk county ranks 23rd in the state for unemployment.  Last year at this time, unemployment in the county was 5.1-percent.

“In June, Wisconsin experienced a mostly seasonal bump in unemployment as students and others entered the job market looking for summer employment,” Secretary Gassman said
