Ban on Burning Permits for Burnett/Polk Counties

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 at 9:19 am

Recent dry conditions are leading to an increase in fires in the Grantburg-Webster areas, says Bob Hartshorn, Forestry Team Leader for Burnett and Polk counties.  Wednesday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced Burnett and Polk are two of six counties in the state where a ban on burning permits is now in effect.  Hartshorn says the lack of rain is the main source of the recent problems.

Hartshorn says there is no timetable for how long the ban will stay in effect, adding that it’s dependent on the amount of precipitation.  He says the number of fires in the area are unusually high for this time of year.
