Street Reconstruction Delayed A Year
The 2009 Street Reconstruction projects in Pine City are going to have to wait a year. City Engineer Sean Clark broke the news to the city council at Wednesday’s monthly meeting. Clark says because of the amount of request for stimulus money, there is a delay in the review from Rural Development, which has pushed the project back.

The $2.4 million reconstruction project includes First Avenue NE, Second Street NE, the forcemain route along Rypkema Road and Fifth Avenue NE as an alternate route.
Clark did not give an exact figure, but says he does anticipate a “nice grant.” Representatives with the USDA Rural Development indicated in March that the project is likely eligible for a grant for the water main and water services.
The delay does present a few potential problems. Clark says the forcemain, which is scheduled for repair, can break “tomorrow or in five years.”

The delay will also push back the capital improvement plan including next phase of Woodpecker ridge.
