Pine City is preparing for a potential expansion or relocation of the library.  The city council agreed to hire Gayle Mack of SEH as the architect for rebuilding the library. Mack will be responsible for fundraising and designing the concepts for the new building.  The library board will pay Mack $75,000 for her services, which council and library board member Brian Scholin says is budgeted.  Scholin adds that Mack seems like the right fit for the job.

Scholin commended Mack on already saving the library thousands of dollars by obtaining shelving from closing Barnes and Nobles stores.

Whether the library will stay at its current location connected to city hall or move to another location remains in the air, but the library board is awaiting sizable anonymous donation, and Scholin says it is in the best interest to begin with the design stage.

Fellow library board member Judy Scholin says one of Mack’s main goals is educating the community on the impact of the project.

If the library does stay at its current location and decides to expand, Brian Scholin says the plan is to take out some of the interior walls and believes there will be limited exterior renovation.
