“Seussical Jr” is family event of the summer. Cast announced for second annual community ed musical.

Rehearsals are under way for Pine City’s next big theatrical event, “Seussical Junior, The Dr. Seuss Musical.” The stories of Dr. Seuss come alive in the silly songs and dances of “Seussical,” featuring familiar characters like The Cat in the Hat and Horton the Elephant. Perfect family entertainment for the young and young at heart, local audiences will have only two chances to catch “Seussical” – June 19 and 20.

The cast is led by Adam Martin in the role of Horton the Elephant, who is featured alongside Hannah Kloeckl as Gertrude McFuzz.  Also starring are Ashlee Martini (The Cat in the Hat) and Courtnie Blazek (Mayzie La Bird).  Gabe Gonyea and Lindsey Kline are featured as Mr. and Mrs. Mayor of Whoville, along with Michael Woulfe (JoJo), and Gillian Kolling (Sour Kangaroo).  A total of 36 area students are in the cast.

“Seussical” is Pine City Community Education’s second-annual summer theater workshop.  “Seussical Jr” is an abbreviated version of the successful Broadway musical based on the Dr. Seuss books “Horton Hears a Who” and “Horton Hatches the Egg.” Students take part in daily acting, singing and dance lessons which culminate in two public performances of the musical with full costumes, sets and music.

The show promises to be an exciting and memorable event for all area families, with public performances on Jun. 19 and 20 at 7:00 P.M. at the Rush City High School Auditorium.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students and will be available at the door.

“Seussical is directed by Bradley Mariska, and assisted by Jennifer Krinke, Jess Christensen, Kris Seuntjens, Laurel Martin, Sandra Sparling, Pat Martin, and several other volunteers.  The musical is co-sponsored by Pine Center for the Arts, Pine City Heritage Players, and Rush City Community Ed.
