Seifert Stepping Down As House Minority Leader
ST. PAUL, June 3, 2009 – Minnesota House Republican Minority Leader Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, today announced that he will step down from that position effective June 24, 2009.
“I am grateful and appreciative to my fellow Republicans for trusting me with the opportunity to lead such a wonderful group of public servants. We accomplished a lot and have more work ahead of us, and I am confident we will continue to be a strong caucus.”
Seifert said the caucus will meet June 24th to elect a new Minority Leader. The June 24th caucus meeting was scheduled well in advance of today’s announcement.
Seifert was first elected to the Minnesota House in 1996 and became the House Republican Minority Leader in 2006. House Republicans re-elected him to that position following the 2008 elections.
He represents District 21A in western Minnesota, including parts of Lyon and Redwood counties. A former high school history teacher, Seifert lives with his wife, Traci, and their two children in Marshall, Minn.
