The Northern Lights Express Rail alliance met at the Pine County Courthouse in Pine City, Wednesday, for its monthly meeting. The group received multiple letters of support including from the Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce and Cambridge Medical Center and also approved SRF as an Environmental Study Draft Consultant. SRF will evaluate a study work plan, review project events, personnel, and contracts.
Wednesday’s meeting included both federal and state legislative reports, as well. Lona Schreiber of Anoka County.
Schreiber said the high speed rail line between Minneapolis and Duluth with possible stops in Pine County will benefit from the Eight-billion dollars set aside for high speed rail in the federal stimulus package.
The NLX is now considered within the Tier 2 stage of project readiness by MN-DOT and Passenger Rail Forum. NLX is recognized as a project that could be eligible for engineering and construction funing in 2010.
