Pine County Taking Steps Against Emerald Ash Borer

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture discovered emerald ash borer in a St. Paul neighborhood last week.  Since then, the MDA placed a state quarantine on firewood, ash trees, and ash tree products in Hennepin and Ramsey counties.  Tuesday, Pine County Land and Zoning Administrator Kurt Schneider said Pine County should abide by the same rules.

Starting yesterday the MDA began looking at ash trees on public and private property in the affected St. Paul neighborhood northeast of the intersection of Highway 280 and Interstate 94.  The department reports that since its accidental introduction to North America, emerald ash borer has killed millions of ash trees in ten eastern states.
