2,000 Unclaimed Properties in Burnett County
The Wisconsin Department of Treasury is releasing the names of over 54,000 state residents that have unclaimed property totaling over $37-million. Over the next two months, the department will print these names in local papers, including in this week’s edition of the Burnett County Sentinel. State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass says there are nearly 2,000 unclaimed properties in Burnett County.
Unclaimed property includes uncashed paychecks, safety deposit content, utility refunds, and other financial assets. Last year, the state treasures office reported that over $28-million dollars in unclaimed property to 25,ooo claimants. Sass says the state of the economy means more and more people are looking into weather or not they may have unclaimed property.
Sass adds even residents that may think there is no chance they have unclaimed property, should still check as a precaution.
