Minnesota and Wisconsin are in the Top Ten states of the US, for tick borne illnesses.  The two states are considered “endemic areas”.  Lyme is alive and right now ticks are biting and infecting people.

Governor  Tim Pawlenty signed a proclamation declaring May as Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Minnesota.

This weekend a 5K run walk is taking place in Chisago County to raise awareness about the disease.  The Sunrise Trail in Wyoming will be the site of the Minnesota Lyme Action Support Group 3rd Annual Lyme disease 5K Walk/Run.  The race kicks off at 10 a.m, with registration at 9 a.m. More details can be found at mlasg.com.

Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated and cleared with a proper diagnosis and immediate antibiotics.  Prevention is the key.

Because of people like Anne Myre who has been instramental in organizing this event and lobbying for our govenor to reconize the importence of this very serious , even life threating disease , The walk/run this year had a terrific turn out even though the weather was less than perfect . It goes to show that people care about this issue . And here in Minnesota you would be hard pressed to not have a friend, neighbor , loved one that has not delt with this issue just enjoying our beautiful minnesota outdoors puts you in risk of encountering a deer tic . So thank you Anne and company for all your hard work and efforts AND really making a difference , and caring about all of us who love minnesota and its beauty , and making us all aware ….
    rock on,
