Kanabec Hospital Friday was named the 2009 “Health Care Career Promotion Award” winner for its work in providing job shadowing and healthcare career promotion to area students.

The honor was one of 19 individual and group awards bestowed by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) of St. Paul. The group’s annual program recognizes volunteers, medical professionals, trustees, and others whose contributions bettered health care at Minnesota hospitals last year.

“Kanabec Hospital’s efforts exemplified outstanding service to the community and area students”, the association said. The hospital achieved success through a collaboration with the Mora High School in which students participate in a job shadowing program which exposes them to a variety of healthcare career choices.

Human Resources Assistant, Sheri Roeschlein accepted the award on behalf of the hospital.

“Kanabec Hospital counts itself lucky to have the opportunity to work with the outstanding youth of our community and to impact their future career choices,” CEO, Randy Ulseth said.

Other awards included: “Caregiver of the Year,” “Best Minnesota Hospital Work Place” and “Volunteer of the Year.” For details, visit www.mnhospitals.org or contact Kanabec Hospital at 320-225-3328.
