Pine City to Host Special Olympics

The Pine City community will welcome some of the best athletes in the area  in July.  On July 18th, the city is hosting a one-day tournament for the Special Olympics at the baseball fields at the high school.   Over 125 participants are expected to compete. Parks and Recreation Coordinator Lara Smetana says it is shaping up to be truly special event.

Mayor Jane Robbins will do the opening ceremony welcome.  Over 180 countries participate in Special Olympics with nearly 2.5 million athletes.  The organization offers competition in 30 summer and winter sports.
