Pine City Announces Annual Pops Concerts

The Music Department at Pine City High School is proud to announce its upcoming Pops Concerts.  This year is bigger and better than ever, with with Band Pops taking place on Monday, May 4 and the Choir Pops on Thursday, May 14.

The Band Pops features the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble, playing highlights from television and film.  Audiences will be moved by music from “Beauty and the Beast” and laugh along with music from the classic cartoon series “Looney Tunes.”  The jazz band will play several standards, including the Glenn Miller classic “In the Mood.”  There will be several special performances, including a trombone solo by Joe Menigo, a jazz combo, and the return (by popular demand!) of the Boomwhacker Ensemble that awed audiences at January’s Musical Revue.

Guest artist Dr. Steve Wright, a nationally-recognized trumpeter and arranger, will be featured with the band in a brand new arrangement of “Days of Wine and Roses.”  Dr. Wright has performed with orchestras and jazz bands around the world and is bringing his expertise to Pine City for a day-long clinic and concert.  Audience members will even have a chance to meet Dr. Wright at a post-concert reception.

As with all Pine City school concerts, admission to the Band Pops is free of charge.  This exciting event starts at 7:30pm on Monday, May 4 in the Elementary Auditorium.

Also mark your calendars for the Junior High Pops Concert next Thursday, April 30.  The Senior High Choir Pops concludes the Pops Series on Thursday, May 14.
