Mille Lacs Band to Hold “Re-do” Election

Marge Anderson was elected Chief Executive of the Mille Lacs Band in December during a special election.  Now Anderson’s new position is in jeopardy.

The Mille Lacs Bands Tribal Court of Appeals ruled last week that there needs to be a re-do in the election, because former chief executive Melanie Benjamin was not allowed on the ballot, after she was ousted from office amid allegations that she was keeping tribal funds for her personal use.

Solicitor General Rjay Brunkow talks about the election process:

Anderson will remain the chief executive until the new election.  She was sworn into office on January 13th at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs.
