Washington DC – A guidebook to help citizens and local governments understand the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act is now available on the Web site of Congressman Jim Oberstar.

“I want to make certain that local officials from the state level right down to the smallest township in Minnesota know how to access the funds Congress has made available through the economic recovery act.  This document explains how the funding will be used, who qualifies for it and how to apply for assistance,” said Oberstar.

The $789 billion economic recovery package will generate jobs and economic development by investing in public works like roads, bridges and wastewater treatment plants.  On Monday, for example, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that it was using $4.4 million in recovery funding to rehabilitate a runway at the Hibbing/Chisholm Airport.  Moody’s Economy.com estimates that  the economic recovery act could create as many as 91,000 jobs in Minnesota and hold the state’s unemployment rate down by as much as 1.8 percent.

Oberstar’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act guidebook can be downloaded at: www.oberstar.house.gov.  Additional information can be found at www.recovery.gov.
