Pine City to Receive “Outstanding Community Award” April 17th
On April 17th at the St. Cloud Civic Center, Pine City will take center-stage as it receives the Outstanding Community Award at the 2009 Initiative Awards, presented by the Initiative Foundation and East Central Energy. The foundation is inviting area residents to attend among other honored guests and a regional audience of 500.
Pine City guests will be honored with a video presentation showcasing the community’s accomplishments. The city will receive a recycled glass sculpture by artist, Michael Tonder, and $1,000 for the Pine City Library Foundation. In late March, Pine City will also be featured in print and online editions of IQ Magazine (www.iqmag.org).
According to the foundation, its awards selection committee chose Pine City because of uncommon citizen volunteerism and significant progress toward business, technology, environmental and early childhood issues.
“What strikes me most about Pine City is that people show up,” said Dan Frank, program manager for community development. “Whether there are challenges to confront, opportunities to seize, or people to help, Pine City residents turn out in full force. That doesn’t happen everywhere.”
Pine City businesses and organizations have already reserved ten tables at the event, and city leaders are encouraging others to consider attending the celebration. “This award is not just for one Pine City person or entity, but rather for the community as a whole,” said City Planner Nathan Johnson. “It really is a special place.”
In all, the foundation will present six awards for outstanding leadership and community service. The others are:
• Outstanding Green Venture — Rural Renewable Energy Alliance, Pine River
• Outstanding Nonprofit Organization — Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity, St. Cloud
• Outstanding Enterprise — LINDAR Corporation, Baxter
• Outstanding Leadership — Dr. Glen Palm, St. Cloud State University
• Outstanding Youth — Jennifer Schmidt, St. Cloud
The star-themed awards event, “A Constellation of Community Service,” is scheduled for 5 p.m., April 17th at the St. Cloud Civic Center’s Terry Haws Ballroom. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased online at www.ifound.org/awards or by calling Anita Hollenhorst at 877-632-9255
