Pine City Senior High Winter Concert
March is “Music in Our Schools Month” and Pine City High School students will be taking the stage tonight for their annual Winter Concert. The performance begins at 7:30pm in the Elementary Auditorium and will feature a wide variety of music from the concert band, jazz band, and choirs.
Mixed Choir will be performing a variety of spirituals and folk songs, while the Treble Choir will sing a traditional song from Kenya. The Senior High Concert Band is featuring two works by composer Sam Hazo, including a work entitled,“Rush,” a unique and highly percussive composition inspired by sounds heard at the Wenger music factory in Owatonna. Jazz One will play “Amazing Grace,” featuring tenor sax soloist Tyler Bridley. Pine City Singers will be singing a brand new arrangement of the traditional favorite “Danny Boy” and the Concert choir will perform several songs, including a piece in Russian and the popular spiritual “The Battle of Jericho.”
The choirs are directed by Jennifer Krinke and the bands are under the direction of Bradley Mariska. As always, admission to music events is free of charge and the public is encouraged to attend.
Several other “Music in Our Schools Month” events are fast approaching. The Second Grade Dino Program is on March 12 and the Kindergarten Circus on March 20. Senior High Band and Choir will be participating in Large Group Contest on March 17 and Choir Sub-Section solo/ensemble contest is March 19.
