Minnesota Projects Included in Government Funding Bill

Washington DC  – Legislation to fund the operation of the government through the end of 2009 designates over $28 million for specific programs and projects in northeastern Minnesota.  Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the $410 billion Omnibus Appropriations Act (HR 1105) by a vote of 245-178.

“This legislation makes important investments that are important to Minnesota,” said Congressman Jim Oberstar.  “We are investing in waste water treatment plants, purchasing better equipment for first responders and providing guidance and education for children.”

Below is a list of the Minnesota projects and programs that Oberstar advocated for inclusion in the legislation:

Grand Rapids Police Department In-Vehicle Video Cameras


City of Gilbert Integrated Radio System


Itasca County 9-11 Radio System


Sheriff’s Youth Programs of Minnesota Rum River Farm Programming


St. Louis County Sherriff’s Office for Regional Interoperability Mobile Data System Project


Bolder Options Expansion and Replication, Duluth.  Mentoring program for 40 at-risk youths.


Northeast Law Enforcement Administrators Council Methamphetamine Reduction Project



X-Ray Machine, University of Minnesota.  To be used for ongoing treatment and study of Mesothelioma.


Duluth Children’s Museum


Foster Care Services – Sheriff’s Youth Programs


Improving Ojibwe and Dakota Student Performance   MN Humanities


Bois Forte Reservation for renovation of the health and dental clinic and for purchases of new equipment


College of St. Scholastica for a rural health and technology demo



City of Isanti Pedestrian Bridge over TH 65


TH 95 Bridge Project. To replace functionally obsolete bridge over I-35.


TH 8 in Lindstrom, improve access management and pedestrian safety


High Speed Passenger Rail Service, Duluth to Minneapolis


Greater Minnesota Transit – Mn/DOT.  Capital improvements and operating funds for rural transit authorities.  Including a downtown transit hub and transit facility for the DTA.


Financial Services

Northeast Entrepreneur Fund, to help small business start-ups.



Koochiching Forest Legacy Phase III


Grand Rapids Wastewater Treatment Plant


Superior National Forest – Land Acquisition


Energy and Water

Garrison-Mille Lacs Wastewater Treatment


Northeastern, MN Army Corps of Engineers 569 Program.  To help small communities with water infrastructure projects.
