Former Trade Lake Camp Director Declines Plea Deal
Former Trade Lake Camp Director Marjorie “Peggy” Hjelseth appeared, Tuesday, in Burnett County Court. She declined an offer from the prosecution for a plea agreement.
Hjelseth is accused of two felony charges in connection with the death of Shirley Meade in July. Meade was given the wrong dosage of medication, and Hjelseth is alleged to have known about the mistake, but did not report or take action.
Count one charges Hjelseth with Recklessly Subject an Individual at Risk to Abuse-Cause Death, which is a class C Felony and carries a penalty of up to 40-years in prison and a $100,000 fine. Count two is 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide, a class D felony. If Hjelseth is convicted of count two, she could spend up to 25-years behind bars and a $100,000 fine.
No trial date is set.
