The Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office reports a series of fraudulent phone calls are targeting elderly citizens in the area. The calls are coming from Canada and say the grandchildren of the local residents are in jail and need bail money.

The amount of the requests range from $2,000 to $25,000. The caller requests that the money be sent via money gram from a Wal-Mart, SuperAmerica or U.S. Bank.
