A White Bear Lake man led police on a high speed chase Friday night. The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen from North Branch.

Wyoming Police spotted 44-year-old Robert Patrick Butters driving the vehicle on Interstate 35 at the Rounty Road 22 overpass. Officers followed the vehicle to the Forest Lake exit where a Minnesota State Trooper awaited to assist in stopping the vehicle. When police activated their emergency lights, Butters allegedly took off at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit ended when the White Bear Lake resident tried to exit at County Road 14 in Centerville, lost control of the vehicle and went into a ditch. Butters was not injured and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Chisago County Jail and booked on felony charges of fleeing police and motor vehicle theft.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the pursuit.
