The Pine City council established a new committee at the first meeting of 2009. The council agreed to create an Executive Personnel Committee to oversee matters regarding personnel policy. The committee will consist of the city administrator and two council members. The three will join the Management Committee, formerly the personnel committee. The Management Committee consists of the department heads.

Councilman Paul Janssen says he would like the chance to sit in on the hiring process.
City Administrator Don Howard says doing so opens the door for potential conflicts.
The council agreed that the management committee will continue to make recommendations for employment, and those recommendations will then go to the city council for final approval. The council members on the executive committee will not sit in on hiring decisions. They do vote on the recommendations at the city council meeting.
All council members offered their services to serve on the committee, Mayor Jane Robbins plans to finalize the appointments by a special workshop meeting, Saturday, January 10th.
