Pine County Board Freezes Hiring/Salaries; Montbriand New Chair
Due in part to the Minnesota economic forecast released in early December, cities and counties throughout the state are searching for ways to save money and are cutting back.
On Tuesday, the Pine County Board agreed to a hiring freeze. However, the board did conclude that if a position becomes vacant, the personnel committee will make a recommendation and then the board will vote on the potential hire.
This is different from previous years when the personnel committee made recommendations and the decision was placed on the consent agenda. This year, hiring decisions will be placed on the regular agenda.
District Five County Commissioner Doug Carlson:
The board also agreed on a salary freeze for 2009.
District Two commissioner Ed Montbriand was appointed county Chairman for the 2009 year. Doug Carlson will serve as the Vice Chairman.
