Grandparents Victim of $230K Theft

An 18-year-old Taylors Falls man and 19-year-old Cambridge man are in custody for stealing $230,000. Andrew Selvig, of Taylors Falls, Minn., faces one felony count of theft after police officers found him in possession of $2,000 cash and a fireproof safe belonging to his grandparents. The safe contained between 2,300-2,500 $100 bills from the grandparents restaurant It had been reported missing from their home on Dec. 28.

Selvig was arrested at his fathers home in Lake City.

Selvig named Cambridge resident Samuel Durkot, 19, as an accomplice. The two allegedly purchased several vehicles between Sunday, Dec. 28th and Tuesday, Dec. 30th including a Mitsubishi convertible, Buick roadmaster, Ford F-350 truck, Ford Focus, a Ford Ranger Truck, and a Dodge neon, as well as electronics including a flat-screen television.

Police in Elizabethtown, Kentucky arrested Durkot and a juvenile female from Anoka, on Tuesday. The two were en route to Florida. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office later recovered $140,000 is cash and vehicles, except for the one in Kentucky with Durkot.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, that Lake City Police Department and Elizabeth (Kentucky) Police Department continue to investigate the case.
