The recount is officially underway in the race for the U.S Senate seat between Norm Coleman and Al Franken. Two area counties kicked off their recount this morning. Chisago County and Pine County are in the process of hand counting each of the ballots cast in the November 4th election. Over 14,000 votes were cast in Pine County on November 4th. Wednesday, counters were weeding through the ballots again. County Auditor, Cathy Clemmer, expects the recount to take two days. Statewide election officials are recounting 2.9 million ballots, a process that is costing the state about $90,000.
