[Update]19-year-old drowns in Pokegama Lake
Tyler Carl Balfany, 19, of Coon Rapids died, Saturday, after drowning in Pokegama Lake in Pine City. The Pine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call just before 4 a.m.
Balfany was one of two men on a paddle boat when it began to sink. The other man, Kyle Theis of Coon Rapids, was able to swim to shore safely.
Balfany’s body was recovered at 10:15 a.m. and transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office.
Pine County Chief Deputy, Steve Ovick, says the temperature was 46 degrees at the time, and called the situation a “recipe for disaster.”
Results from the autopsy conducted in Ramsey County are expect early this week.
Chisago and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Offices, the Minnesota DNR and the Pine City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
