Quiet Thunder…Pine City Beats Zimmerman, Advance to SCSU, Other Area Scores

The Pine City Dragons started slow, but for the second straight week, their defense stepped up in a 28-16 win over the Zimmerman Thunder. The Dragons fell behind to Zimmerman 3-0 in the second quarter of the second round of the playoffs, but after the Thunder field goal, Adam Olson returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Pine City took a 14-3 lead into the half after Haakon Hansen scored from seven yards out, late in the second quarter. Hansen finished with over 130 yards rushing and three scores. He also completed a 36 yard pass to Joey Carter. Taylor Gonyea ran well, picking up 64 yard on just eight carries. Wes Fischer went 5-7 for 69 yards. The Dragons advance to play next Friday at Saint Cloud State against Holy Family Catholic.
