Thompson Arraigned on Felony Charges

November 4th is election day, for former Kanabec County Sheriff Von Thompson, 52, it will mean a date in court.

The former sheriff is due in Kanabec County Court for allegedly exploiting over $172,000 from a 91-year-old Mora man between October of 2007 and May of 2008.

The Kanabec County Times reports that Thompson told the elderly man that he need the money to by a plane which he later intended to sell.

Thompson faces four felony charges. If convicted, he could face 80 years behind bars. He was arraigned in Isanti County Court Tuesday. Thompson turned himself in to authorities after felony charges were filed Monday.

Thompson served as sheriff for 18 years, until 1999

    This brings to mind the “world venture” internet scheme that’s out there. Same sort of, lets get rich quick scheme. What ever happened to hard work and ethics?
