Rivard and the sheriff’s department are proposing an over $32-million project that includes 217 beds, which is 150 beds more than the current jail. The problem, says Chisago County Commissioner, Ben Montzka, is the timing.

Rivard disagrees, and says the longer the county waits to build a new facility, the more it will cost in the long run.
