North Branch Man Injured in Shooting

North Branch police responded to what they are calling an “accidental” shooting, Saturday night, just before 5:00 p.m. at 40400 block of Elmerest Avenue.

Police say the victim is a 31-year-old North Branch resident. He was on his property with a newly acquired rifle, hunting under the “two day early anterless season.”

Investigators are trying to figure out how exactly the shooting took place, but the man was shot with a .223 round through the left leg near the knee while in a tree stand-alone.

The man’s name is not yet available. He was transported to the Fairview Lakes Medical Center by ambulance then flown to the North Memorial Hospital for trauma care. He condition is unknown.

The North Branch Fire Department, Chisago County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Natural Resources, and Lakes Region EMS assisted the North Branch Police Department.
