The Polk County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Department reports that a seven-year-old boy is in serious condition after a pickup truck hit him Friday afternoon.

Cody Ward, the son of Harlene FitzPatrick of rural St. Croix Falls, was rushed to regions hospital in St. Paul. According to witnesses, the boy ran into moderately heavy traffic while trying to cross from the south to the north side of West Main Street in the Village of Balsam Lake. Balsam Lake First Responder and Unity Area Ambulence treated the boy at scene.

The driver is identified as Cody Turnquist, 18, of Centuria, WI.

The incident is under investigation by the Balsam Lake Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department
