[Video/Audio] Saturday Morning Fire in Pine City

Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at 10:07 am

Pine City, Hinckley, Brook Park and Rush City Fire Departments responded to a fire, Saturday morning, on Main Street in Pine City. The fire was intentionally ignited for training purposes. Pine City Fire Chief, Tom Miller, said the property is donated by the owner because it is deemed an unrepairable structure. The fire department and home owner apply for permits through the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Natural Resources. Miller said, “This is the only time we get a true [practice] burning experience.”

Pine Technical College instructors aide in the direction of the fire. Pine Tech uses trained ignitors to light the fire using wood pallets, dry hay, straw, and cardboard.

The fire, Saturday, was one of two scheduled training fires this weekend, but Miller says, because of the wind, they may only do one.
