Charges are pending against owners of over 30 dogs found in North Branch. Officials say the owners did not have proper kennel licenses.

According to a press release issued Wednesday by the Isanti County Sheriff’s Department, officers observed 31 dogs on the property, 30 are pitbulls and one is a bull dog. Twenty-seven of the dogs were confiscated, and each had to be sedated in order to be transported to the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul.

Officers also confiscated items consistent with dog fighting. The dogs were spread out across the property at 30607 Abby Road Northeast. They were attached to what were described as large heavy chains. Veterinarians in St. Paul determined that many of the dogs had some degree of past or present lacerations and puncture wounds. These wounds left the dogs with extensive hairless scars and current infected wounds.

The dogs are being held for ten days pending a disposition hearing.
