A local business was burglarized over the weekend, losing $500 in cash.
A perpetrator smashed the window in the front door of Hotliqs, a business downtown. They entered the business and stole $500 from the cash register, said Don Murtaugh, store manager.
The theft took place sometime between Sunday and Monday. Frederic police arrived at the scene at 8:45 a.m. on Monday.
“I think it was a really quick thing,” said Murtaugh. He said nothing else was taken or disturbed in the store.
Police found blood on some shattered glass by the front door. They took the evidence for a possible DNA match in the criminal data files, said Stephanie Warner, Frederic police spokesperson.
She said this incident reveals a pattern and police have “some suspects in mind.”
Hotliqs has been in business for two years. But after the first year and a half with no incidents, they thought it was safe not to hide the money that was left in the cash register overnight.
“We’re going to go back to hiding the money again,” Murtaugh said.
